11, U
Howard E. Strand
Management/Program, Analyst
Office • Surface Mining, Western Region
1•9• Broadway, Suite 3320
Denver, CO 80202-3050
RE: Proposed Decision of the Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety
(CD S) SL-04 Partial Phase I Bond Release at the Bowie No. I Mine, Pen-nit Number
C-1981-038
In response to your email • May • 2013, my staff has reviewed your request for concurrence to
Phase I Bond Release for reclamation that was conducted between 2001 and 2009 by Bowie
Resources, LLC. The release pertains to reclamation • the east portal site including removal •
surface facility structures on about 40.15 acres.
We are aware that the lands covered in the request are fee surface lands and past mining
activities took place on adjacent subsurface federal coal. The reclamation and the CDRMS
review process documented • the CDRMS are satisfactory • BLM with necessary resolutions
apparently reached with private surface owners. Therefore, if the surface owners are satisfied
with the work completed, then the BLM has no objection to the Bond Release.
Sincerely,
Barbara Sharrow,
