SaYime - 2.05.6
Reclamation or restoration of sedimentation ponds and posrm~r,ir+g drainages will either «cur in
• conjunction with final reclamation and regrading activities for the corresponding mine duturbance
areas or will be initiated within one yeaz following release of reclamation liability and the ass«iated
band surety and completed within two years. A summary of the costs for reclaiming or restoring
sedimentation ponds and postmirting drainages is provided in Exhibit 2.03-E3, Insurance and
Bonding Infom~ation.
Degasification Wells and Fire Control and Monitoring Borehole Sites - A number of
degasification wells were completed into Somerset Mttte, and have been and will be completed into
the Sanborn Creek Mute and Elk Creek Mtne workings to bleed-off excess methane and other gases
as a safety consideration in conjunction with ongoing mining operations. The boreholes ass«iated
with the Somerset Mute (Boreholes B-1 through B-8) have been plugged and sealed in accordance
with applicable provisions of Rule 4.07.9 with the exception of Borehole B-6, which was converted to
a ground water monitoring well. In addition, eleven degasification wells (Wells CBM 1 through CBM
11) and eleven fire conuol and monitoring boreholes (Boreholes SCWF-1, and SOGM-1 through
SCGM-10) have been completed in conjunction with the Sanborn Creek mining operations. These
and future boreholes and wells and the ass«iated light-use access roads will be reclaimed in
conjunction with final reclamation activities for the Sanborn Creek Mtne and Elk Creek Mute facilities
areas.
Reclamation of borehole and well sites and the associated surface disturbance will involve dismantling
and removal of all surface equipment, plugging and sealing of the boreholes, ripping and grading of
the associated pad areas and roads, replacement of topsoil and reseeding. The degasification wells will
be plugged and sealed by cement grouting to approximately 20 feet above and below any identified
water-producing zones. Then, aher gas sampling shows that no further methane is being exhausted
• from the well, an otto-plug (or sintilaz) will be set in the well ten feet below the ground surface and
the reR+~+~+r+g 10 feet above the plug cemen[ed to surface. Any casing extending above the ground
surface will be cut off, and a well mazkerinstalled. Following plugging and sealing of the borehole,
any temporary diversions will be filled in and the disturbed surface area regraded to blend with the
surrounding terrain. Associated roads will be reclaimed by bl«king access with bertrts, rocks, or by
other means, establishing passive drainage controls (water bats and/or ditches), and ripping and
seeding road surfaces. Topsoil and suitable soil material stockpiled and/or windrowed in berms on
the perimeter of the disturbed areas will be redistributed at uniform thickness and reseeded in
accordance with the revegetation plan presented in Exhibit 2.05-E6, Revegetation Plan.
Sealing and reclamation of boreholes and ass«iated surface disturbance areas will begin no later than
one yeaz after reclamation of the associated mining areas u initiated. A sumtttary of the cosu for
reclauning boreholes, wells and ass«iated surface disturbance is provided in Exhibit 2.03-E3,
Insurance and Bonding Information. It should be noted that the Sanborn Creek fire control and
monitoring boreholes were permitted separately under anExploration Notice of Intent (NOI IX-98-
223-02) and are not subject to the 10-yeaz reclamation liability period.
Measures for Handling and Disposal of Acid-Forming. Toxic-Producing. or Flammable
Materials
Potential acid-forming, toxic-producing, or Rammable materia]s commonly associated with
underground coal ntinirtg and related operations include the following:
• Mute development and mining waste produced by mine development and rninirtg operations
• Coal refuse and coal processing waste produced bycoal screening and processing operations
• • Stockpiled or waste coal materiak
• Fuel, oil, lubricants, antifreeze, and solvents
PR04 2.05-67 Revised May 2001
