HOMESTAKE MINING COMPAD
BULLDOG MOUNTAIN OPERATION
EXHIBIT I
SOILS
I-1 GENERAL
Published literature discussing the soils of the Permit Areas are
not available but soil properties are addressed by Forest Service personnel
during specific studies relating to planned disturbance by logging and mining.
Expertise relating to soils type for the Permit Areas has been supplied by
the Forest Service Supervisor's Office.
At this time, it is the general opinion of the U. S. Forest Service
and Homestake Mining Company that sufficient quantities of top soil for con-
struction of a tailings cover does not exist on public lands in the area.
Some top soil may be available from private lands in the future but the quan-
tity is speculative and unknown. For this reason, rehabilitation of the tail-
ings will be attempted as described in EXHIBIT E.
