Roads:
The access road was in good condition.
PERMIT #: M- 2004 -028
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS: TOD
INSPECTION DATE: March 27, 2013
OBSERVATIONS
This inspection was conducted in response to a request for Temporary Cessation (TC -01) that the Division of
Reclamation, Mining and Safety (Division) received on March 11, 2013 and found complete on April 1, 2013.
This inspection was conducted by Tyler O'Donnell of the Division. Febbraro Construction was represented by
Wesley and Joseph Jr. Febbraro during the inspection. The Broyles Pit is located approximately 15 miles
northeast of Trinidad, Colorado. The site is permitted as a gravel pit. The approved permit area is 12.96 acres.
The approved post- mining land use is rangeland.
The sky was clear and the ground was dry. No mining equipment was operational at the time of the
inspection. The current disturbance appeared to be approximately 12 acres. The site had been graded, top -
soiled and seeded. There were 2 large stockpiles of gravel that the operator hopes to sell when economic
conditions improve. No problems or violations were observed during the inspection.
Backfilling and Grading:
The site has been backfilled and graded with slopes approximately 3H:1V.
Hydrologic Balance:
The Pit excavation is located on a hill just north of the Purgatoire River. The bottom of the pit was dry. There
was no evidence of excessive erosion. There appeared to be no significant impacts to the prevailing
hydrologic balance.
Gen. Compliance With Mine Plan:
Mining activity appears to have been completed. The current pits were approximately 10ft deep. The current
pits were daylighting to the southern portion of the pits. All mining activity appeared to be within the
approved permit boundary.
Recl Plan /Comp:
The site has not yet been completely reclaimed. The majority of the earth - moving work had been conducted,
and the graded slopes have been covered with topsoil.
Revegetation:
At the time of the Inspection, there were a few annual weeds. There was little vegetation growth within the
disturbed area. The plant growth within the disturbed area appeared to be volunteer vegetation. The
operator's representative explained to the inspector that the site had been seeded. However vegetation had
failed to establish due to the abnormally dry conditions.
Erosion /Sedimentation:
There was no evidence of excessive erosion (rills, gullies, or sediment fans).
Signs and Markers:
A mine I.D. sign was located at the entrance to the mine site. The permit boundary was clearly marked by PVC
pipes stuck in the ground.
