Calculation of 90 percent of the cover performance standard appropriate for 2011 sampling using the
highest possible value for the Mountain Brush Reference Area component is demonstrated below.
Aspen Reference Area Allowable All -Hit Herbaceous Cover' = 91.3%
Mountain Brush Reference Area Allowable All -Hit Herbaceous Cover' = 50.04%
Sagebrush Reference Area Allowable All -Hit Herbaceous Cover' = 30.1%
Steep Mountain Brush Reference Area Allowable All -Hit Herbaceous Cover' =32.2%
Western Wheatgrass/ Alkali Sagebrush Reference Area Allowable All -Hit Herbaceous Cover' = 45.4%
' Herbaceous cover adjusted by subtracting noxious weeds and annual /biennial plant cover in excess of 10% of the remainder.
90 percent of the Cover Standard for 2011 =
0.90* [0.110(91.3 %) +0.354(50.04 %) +0.313(30.1 %) +0.128(32.2 %) +0.104(45.4 %)] = 41.4
The mean allowable all -hit herbaceous vegetation cover sampled in 2011 BRB -1 was 57.7 percent,
exceeding 41.4 percent, which is 90 percent of the upwardly adjusted cover performance standard. (see
also Figure C -1, Table C -1). This direct comparison of reclaimed area mean to standard is allowed under
DRMS rules (CDMG 2005 revised rule, 4.15.11 (2)(a)) when sample adequacy has been demonstrated for
the reclaimed area. Thus for 2011, successful revegetation with respect to allowable all -hit herbaceous
cover is indicated. [Note that were the Mountain Brush Reference Area mean not upwardly adjusted to the
maximum value for the calculation of the performance standard, 90% of the cover standard would have
come to 39.4 %].
HERBACEOUS PRODUCTION
Calculation of 90 percent of the production performance standard appropriate for 2011 sampling is
demonstrated below.
Aspen Reference Area Allowable Herbaceous Production' = 1391.8 lbs/acre
Mountain Brush Reference Area Allowable Herbaceous Production' = 754.8 lbs/acre
Sagebrush Reference Area Allowable Herbaceous Production' = 963.6 lbs/acre
Steep Mountain Brush Reference Area Allowable Herbaceous Production' = 492.9 lbs/acre
Western Wheatgrass/ Alkali Sagebrush Reference Area Allowable Herbaceous Production' = 934.2
lbs/acre
'Herbaceous production adjusted by subtracting annual /biennial plant production in excess of 10% of the remainder. Production by
noxious weed species is not collected.
25
