Appendix F. Graphs of vegetation and climate data are presented in Figures C -1a through C -11 of this
report.
In the plant cover descriptions below, species listed as "also present" were not "hit" during point- intercept
sampling but were present within one meter of either side of the 50 m sample transect line. Unless
otherwise stated, all cover values reported below are for all -hit data. Percentages are rounded to one
decimal place to facilitate discussion of the results.
2011 Phase III BRB -1
(Photographs 1 through 30)
COVER
(Table A -1)
The rank of dominant lifeform in the BRB -1 in 2011 was split almost equally amongst introduced perennial
forbs and native perennial cool season grasses with 17.1 and 20.6 percent all -hit vegetation cover
respectively. Introduced perennial cool season grasses and native perennial forbs followed close behind
with 9.2 and 5.7 percent all -hit vegetation cover. Introduced perennial forb cover was composed mostly of
alfalfa (Medicago sativa) which was included in the reclamation seed mixes to assure the presence of a
vigorous nitrogen- fixing legume. Native perennial cool season grass cover was predominantly composed of
Rocky Mountain fescue (Festuca saximontana) andwestern wheatgrass (Pascopyrum smithii). A total of
seventy -two native plant species were encountered during quantitative sampling. Also observed in the area
were, in minor amounts, the noxious weeds musk thistle (Carduus nutans ssp. macrolepis, no measurable
cover, hound's tongue (Cynoglossum officinale, 1.3 percent cover), whitetop (Cardaria draba, 0.2 percent
cover), and Canada thistle (Breea arvense, 1.0 percent cover).
Total average vegetation cover for first -hits was 57.6 percent. Allowable all -hit herbaceous cover was 57.7
percent. Cover by standing dead, litter, bare soil and rock averaged 0.7, 21.6, 18.9 and 1.2 percent,
respectively (first hits). Average species density was 33.1 species per 100 sq. m.
PRODUCTION
(Table A -2)
Total herbaceous production in the BRB -1 in 2011 was 1,882.5 pounds per acre, all of which was allowable
herbaceous production. Of this, 908.2 pounds were native perennial cool season grasses, 567.4 were
13
