WOODY PLANT DENSITY
Figure C -3 and C -4 graphically presents the "Background" and "Concentration Area" woody plant density
averages for the 2012 BRB -1, respectively. As can be seen, the 437.1 stems per acre observed in the
Background area exceeds 180 stems per acre (90% of the 200 stems per acre) performance standard.
The 4,318.0 stems per acre observed in the Concentration area far exceeds the 1,800 stems per acre
(90% of the 2,000 stems per acre background standard) performance standard. The total Concentration
Area identified was 6.0 acres. Hence the standard that there would be at least at least 2,000 stems per
acre in Shrub Concentration Areas has been met for 2012.
"Background" Density
Use of a reverse -null t -test of the assertion that the 2012 BRB -1 Background woody plant density
exceeds 90% of the standard is shown as follows:
.x — (0.9* technical standard)
437.1 — 180
—2.055
910.55\
Since critical t = 0.849 (one - tailed, alpha = 0.2, 53 -1 df) and t is greater than this critical value,
reclamation success for background woody plant density for Phase III in 2012 is demonstrated.
Concentration Area Density
Use of a reverse -null t -test of the assertion that the 2012 BRB -1 Concentration Area woody plant density
exceeds 90% of the standard is shown as follows:
— (0.9* teCbenicai Sra dard)
—
CiT
13.0 — 1300
= ;.705
3213.2
22
