The vegetative cover is described as excellent and no problems are reported with regard to erosion or
stability. The pond has received minimal inflow since it was last cleaned in 2010.
No inspection report of pond 001 is included. This report should be forwarded to the Division.
In the West Portal area containments 1 and 2 are both reported as dry with excellent vegetative cover,
and plenty of sediment storage capacity.
At the bottom of the RDA, containments 5 and 4 (or N and SE), are both described as having some
erosion forming gullies and significant sediment accumulation. The gullies should be monitored and
repaired if necessary, and the sediment should be cleaned out. No problems were observed with
containment 3 (or SW).
Finally, rule 4.05.9(17) requires that copies of impoundment inspection reports are retained at the mine
site, and that they are submitted to the Division on a quarterly basis. We received copies of reports from
Q 1, 2013 the day after we received those from Q4, 2012, which negates the value of the quarterly
reporting somewhat.
Sincerely,
Leigh Simmons.
Environmental Protection Specialist
