approximately 350 acres of Sagebrush steppe (core and ecotonal) in the Collom disturbance area.
The Diversity standard applicable to the reclaimed Collom expansion area Grassland community
shall be:
• At least three native cool season perennial grasses with between 3% and 50% relative
cover, and
• At least one perennial forb or shrub with between 2% and 50% relative cover, or
• A total of all forbs or all shrubs combined with between 4% and 50% relative cover, or
• If five or more native cool season perennial grass taxa contribute between 3% and 50%
composition, the requirement for perennial forbs and shrubs shall be limited to 1% or
more relative combined cover.
The Diversity standard applicable to the reclaimed Collom expansion area Sagebrush steppe
community shall be:
• At least four native perennial species, each more than 3% relative cover, a minimum of
two of which are grasses and a minimum of one which is a forb, with the following
caveat:
• If no single forb species exceeds 3% relative cover, the forb requirement can be met if:
a) At least two native perennial forbs combined comprise at least 2% relative cover,
or
b) At least four native perennial forbs combined comprise at least 1% relative cover.
E. Revegetation Monitoring Plan
Colowyo will continually monitor vegetation establishment to ensure that success standards are
being met. Information on the vegetation monitoring plan is found in Section 4.15.1(4) of the
Permit. Results of these surveys are included in the Annual Reclamation Reports.
As a part of this plan, monitoring shall occur between late June to early August to best utilize
information measurable during the active growing season. Monitoring of the first growing season
after planting will determine the frequency of occurrence of planted versus volunteer species.
This strategy will allow for corrective action to be employed when necessary.
During the second growing season after planting, data for herbaceous cover and woody plant
density will be collected by species. If no deficiencies are exposed during the second growing
season, inventory sampling will be scheduled every three years. If deficiencies are identified
during the second growing season, corrective action will be taken and more frequent monitoring
scheduled. Vegetation monitoring information will be submitted to the Division as part of the
Annual Reclamation Reports, along with a map delineating areas sampled each year.
1. The Division approved the use of introduced species in the reclamation seed mix. The
Colowyo Coal Mine C1981 -019 PR -03 65 April 10, 2013
