EXHIBIT B — Site Description
The five acre site and surrounding area is currently utilized as rangeland. The
vegetation cover is comprised of sagebrush, mountain mahogany and bunch grasses.
The vegetation varies from sparse mountain mahogany and grass on the southern four
acres of the affected area to relatively dense sagebrush coverage on the northern one
acre portion of the affected area. The soils are a well drained channery to very channery
loam on slopes of 15 to 90 percent with numerous exposed rock outcroppings of 35 to
90 percent slope. The mean annual precipitation of this area is 8 to 18 inches with a
mean annual air temperature of 40 to 50 degrees F. (B1 NRCS- SOIL MAP) (B2 NRCS- MAP
UNIT DESCRIPTION).
The only manmade structure within 200 feet of the site is an existing access road which
is approximately 16 feet in width and has been in place for over 25 years. The road
extends to the mine site entrance and will not require any modifications or upgrades
outside of the affected land. The road will be maintained during the time of the planned
mining activity and will be left in place in equal to or better than current condition at the
end of the planned mining activity and final reclamation. The road is owned by the Ertl
Family Partnership and will be used for ingress and egress as provided in the property
lease between Shale Tech International Services L.L.C. and Ertl Family Partnership Ltd.
The mine site is located on a south and west facing slope that is adjacent to a normally
dry drainage that is tributary to an unnamed stream that is tributary to Big Duck Creek,
which is tributary to Yellow Creek, which is tributary to the White River. The adjacent
unnamed stream is approximately 250 feet from the existing disturbed area and 500
feet from the proposed new mining operation. The unnamed stream has a small
continuous flow and with proper storm water management no adverse impacts to the
water quality are to be expected from the mining operation. The mine site is only wetted
by rain and snow fall and is not subject to flooding.
The mining operation encompasses an interval 20 feet above and 20 feet below the
mahogany marker which is exposed at the location of the mine site. Core hole drilling
conducted on the Ertl Family Partnership property adjacent to the mine site found no
ground water or active aquifers to depths of greater than 1200 feet and this mining
operation which will not extend more than 30 feet below the surface at the mine
entrance located at Latitude: 39° 56' 33.96874" N Longitude: 108° 34' 04.62375" W will
not impact the ground water system.
Exhibit B attachments: B1 NRCS Soil Map
B2 NRCS Map Unit Description
Photo of Existing Access Road/Previously Disturbed Area - Photo of Area to be mined
1
