Copies of the amended coal leases COC- 6723and COC -67232
will be provided as soon as they are available to document right of entry. A separate copy will be
filed with the Gunnison County Planning Department.
A Federal Coal Exploration Plan for the same exploration program in the Sunset Trail
area has completed and forwarded to the Bureau of Land Management and the U. S. Forest
Service. Ark Land Company is awaiting the analysis and Decision Memo by the U. S. Forest
Service which will thereby allow the BLM to process the plan. A copy of the approval
documents will be forwarded to your attention when it is received.
The Sunset Trail Exploration Plan is within ALC's coal leases C -1362 and COC -67232
as amended in December 2012. The exploration plan has ten holes proposed on the federal
leases over a two year span to conduct a logical characterization of the reserves in this area.
Additionally, two holes are proposed on Arch Coal's fee surface and leased mineral near coal
seam outcrop. Each hole will be plugged and abandoned according to current Division of
Reclamation, Mining, and Safety regulations with site and road reclamation to exceed USFS
standards. The focus of the exploration drilling is to collect additional data for the E Seam to
further quantify seam continuity and quality parameters.
Ark Land Company
A subsidiary of Arch Coal, Inc
West Elk Mine
5174 Highway 133 - PO Box 591
Somerset, CO 81434
Office: 970 - 929 -2246
Fax 970 - 929 -5050
