Sheep (620 ewes) were moved on to the Yoast reclaim area for 30 days between Sept. 8th and
October 19th . This grazing scheme resulted in a total of AUMs for 2012.
Assumptions:
Five (5) sheep = 1.0 AUM
One (1) AUM requires 810 lbs. of forage
30 days (x) 620/5 animal units = 37,20 animal days ± 30 days = 124 animal unit months
(AUM)
800 lbs /acre (x) 798 acres = 638,400 lbs of forage available (extreme drought)
810 lbs (x) 124 AUMs = 100,440 lbs of forage required
Therefore;
217,080 ± 1,436,400 (x) 100 = 16.0 % utili7ation of the Yoast reclaim area.
SEDIMENTATION POND SURVEYS
SCC is required by Permit C -82 -057 to monitor sedimentation ponds for sediment storage
capacities. In accordance with Rule 4.05.6(11)(c), SCC visually inspects each pond a
minimum of quarterly each year. During these inspections, any drastic change in
sedimentation storage or sudden increase in a sediment delta at the inlet to the pond could be
detected which would require mitigation.
Based on the 2012 survey, all sediment ponds have sufficient sediment storage. Additionally,
all ponds have been discharging in compliance with the approved NPDES permit effluent
limitations. Yearly sediment delivery estimates to the ponds are considerably less than
originally calculated, since significant portions of these watersheds have now been
revegetated.
The results of the annual survey are shown on Table 12.3, Sediment Pond Capacities.
STOCK TANKS
No stock tanks were constructed in 2012.
3
