Weed control is severely needed throughout the site.
RECEI
R 262013
/VI SIONOFRE C
MINING AND S AFEN
This letter is being sent to you regarding concerns BLM has identified with your management of
the Iron Mountain mining operations located in Fremont County. On March 15, 2013, a site
inspection was conducted by BLM Geologist, Stephanie Carter, and BLM Ranger, Steve
Cunningham. Below is a summary of the issues noted:
1. In general, the housekeeping at the quarry site was poor. Multiple dump piles, discarded
animal carcasses and trash were observed throughout the pit area.
2. Many new windrow piles of broken concrete were noticed along the pit floor. After
discussing this with you verbally that day, BLM understands that you intend to crush this
material in with the native material during processing.
3. More than five trees were cut down, but appear to be peripheral to the actual mining
footprint.
4. Off road ATV tracks were visible throughout the area. This activity may not have been
caused by you, but indicates that access to the mine site should be better controlled, to
include locked entry gate and a secured perimeter.
In reviewing your mining and reclamation plan, it appears to be somewhat outdated and doesn't
address a number of these issues summarized in this letter. At a minimum, more details are
needed regarding the crushing operations, weed control plan and site monitoring and security.
