The operator should specify in the permit document the timeframe for conducting the
sampling and analysis (e.g., spring & fall).
2. The operator should also update the permit document to include a statement that
quarterly sampling will resume at least one year prior to final bond release.
Please let me know if you have questions.
C: Sandy Brown
COLORADO
D I V I S I O N O F
RECLAMATION
MINING
-&-
SAFETY
John W. Pirleda
Director
I have reviewed TR -44 for the Keenesburg Mine regarding their request to revise the Subsurface
Water Monitoring Analysis schedule from quarterly to semi - annually. I concur with their plan as
proposed and recommend approval for this revision. We have compiled an extensive amount of
data for this site and to date no significant impacts to groundwater have been identified. It is
reasonable to reduce the monitoring frequency for an operator where no significant impacts are
detected and they are several years out from requesting final bond release. I only have minor
comments regarding the revision application.
Office of Office of
Denver • Grand Junction • Durango Active and Inactive Mines
