OBSERVATIONS
PERMIT #: M -1988 -032
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS: MAC
INSPECTION DATE: February 28, 2013
The inspection was conducted by Michael Cunningham of the Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety
(Division). Jason Lockard and Rusty Reese of Washington County Road and Bridge District No. 2 were also
present for the inspection. The Fassler Gravel Pit is located approximately 1 mile south and 4 miles west of
Akron, Colorado. The site is permitted for 9.9 acres and the post- mining land use is general agriculture. There
were several inches of snow cover on the ground at the time of the inspection.
The permit sign was posted at the site entrance and the boundary of the affected area was clearly delineated
by monuments as required by Rule 3.1.12. The last date of mining activity occurred in August of 2010; the site
is currently being reclaimed. The Operator should be aware that Rule 3.1.3 requires reclamation to be
completed within five years from the date that mining ceases.
Material at the Fassler Gravel Pit was extracted from a hillside with a westerly aspect; the pit floor day - lights
to the west. All product stockpiles have been removed from the site. The pit walls have been graded to 4H:1V;
minor grading on the western portion of the pit floor will be required to allow stormwater to pass through the
site. The topsoil has been stockpiled along the southern permit boundary; the stockpile was stable and did not
show any signs of erosion. The Operator intends on spreading topsoil and reseeding the disturbed area during
this year.
This concluded the inspection.
