commence sampling at this location prior to using it for water storage.
3. The sampling point at the Hazel A. Mine can be eliminated from the sites required
for water monitoring, since it is no longer being used to collect excess storm water
runoff from within the tailings pond. If the Hazel A. is used for any water storage
associated with milling operations in the future, the Operator will consult with the
Division prior to using the mine for this purpose.
4. Gold Hill Mines will continue sampling all four monitoring wells located below the
mill's tailings impoundment. A compilation of all of the water samples taken from
these wells will be submitted to the Division in order to support our request to
eliminate Mill Well No.3 (MW -3) and Mill Well No.4 (MW -4) from future water
sampling. Nothing anomalous has ever been detected in any of the quarterly
water samples taken from either of these wells, and we would like to preserve our
request to eliminate these two locations from future water sampling following
further review by the Division.
5. Mine Well No. 1 (MW -1) has been used for several years to evaluate ground
water quality for the mining and milling operations conducted in this area of the
Gold Hill Mining District. Gold Hill Mines will provide the Division with the
information that it has to support the selection of this monitoring well as the
compliance point for Rule 3.1.7(6) and its use for that purpose for both permits.
6. Gold Hill Mines will continue sampling for the parameters that the Division
indicated it will require until we submit more information to support our request to
eliminate some of the elements that we consider to be unnecessary.
This is Gold Hill Mines, Inc.'s initial response to your Adequacy Review Letter, and I will
be in contact with you as we assemble the information to support our request to revise
the water quality monitoring requirements for this permit. Thank you for your assistance
with this request for a Technical Revision for the Gold Hill Mill's Permit No. M1994 -117.
Very Truly Yours,
'.*4.—
Mark A. Steen
For: Gold Hill Mines, Inc.
