September 26, 2012
Brock F. Bowles
Environmental Protection Specialist
Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety
1313 Sherman St., Room 215
Denver, Colorado 80203
Dear Mr. Bowles:
HISTORY
Re: Bowie No. 2 Mme (Permit No. C- 1996 -083), Permit Revision Application No. 13 (PR -13), Incorporate
Lease Modification into Permit (CHS #62789)
Thank you for your correspondence dated September 17, 2012 (received by our office on September 20, 2012)
regarding the subject undertaking.
Following our review of the documentation provided, we understand that the permit revision does not involve
any new surface disturbance. Therefore it is our opinion that a finding of no historic properties affected is
appropriate for the activities proposed.
However, as not all of the lease modification area has been inventoried for cultural resources (corresponding to
the south -half of the enlarged western portion) we recommend that prior to any surface disturbing activities
within this area that appropriate identification efforts pursuant to 36 CFR 800.4(b) be completed in consultation
with our office.
If previously unidentified archaeological resources are discovered in the course of the project, work must be
interrupted until the resources are properly evaluated in terms of the National Register of Historic Places
eligibility criteria (36 CFR 60.4) in consultation with our office.
Thank you for the opportunity to comment. If we may be of further assistance, please contact Mark Tobias,
Section 106 Compliance Manager, at (303) 866 -4674 or inark.tobias @state.co.us.
Sincerely,
-d/ Edward C.
