Nichols <br />Colorado State Historic Preservation Officer <br />History Colorado <br />1200 Broadway <br />Denver, CO 80203 <br />Attention: Mr. Mark Tobias <br />RE: Colowyo Mine Proposed Collom Extension (CHS #62708) <br />Dear Mr. Nichols, <br />0 <br />�SURFA�� <br />I would like to thank Mr. Tobias and Mr. Corson of the State Historic Preservation Office <br />(SHPO) for meeting with members from the OSM, The Colorado Division of Reclamation <br />Mining and Safety (CDRMS), the BLM, and Colowyo Coal Company on December 20, <br />2012 to discuss the Section 106 consultation and culture resources for the proposed project. <br />OSM is providing the following responses to SHPO's concerns as outlined below. Included <br />herein, are the original comments from SHPO to present a clear relationship to each item <br />outlined in SHPO's December 21, 2012 correspondence. Additionally, this response <br />provides additional clarification to previous correspondence on this project and <br />undertaking, as well as, presenting Colowyo's commitments for the ongoing consideration <br />and protection of cultural resources at the mine. Attachment 1 presents the "Cultural <br />Resource Protection Plan for the Collom Mine Expansion" which will become revision to <br />the Colowyo Mine permit application. <br />Area of Potential Effects (APE): OSM currently defines the APE for this undertaking as <br />the direct footprint for the Collom Lite and Little Collom X mines and associated <br />facilities including the haul road, turnouts, stockpiling, and facilities (staging) areas <br />wherein ground disturbing activities will occur. <br />35 <br />1977.2012 <br />
