II <br />4.8.5 Operational and Postmine Monitoring <br />The following section contains the proposed monitoring for surface and ground water at Trapper during <br />mining. Map M52 shows the locations of the monitoring sites. The post -mine monitoring program will be <br />similar to the operational monitoring program. Some adjustments in the operational monitoring program <br />are expected by the time it becomes a post- mine program. <br />4.8.5.1 Surface Water Monitoring <br />Trapper's surface water monitoring schedule and parameter list can be found on Tables 4.8 -11 and 4.8- <br />12, respectively. <br />A surface water monitoring program should be designed to accomplish two goals. First, to establish the <br />baseline effluent parameter levels prior to mining disturbance. By regulation, these levels are the criteria <br />which must be met by an operator prior to removal of control structures and release of bond. Second, <br />baseline effluent parameter levels are necessary for comparing against operational water quality in order <br />to measure mining related impacts. <br />To achieve the above goals, flow recording devices (either continuous or instantaneous) are used along <br />with grab samples for TSS and SS. Samples are taken monthly. Other parameters as described in List <br />A -1 thru A -3 (Table 4.8 -12) are sampled at the frequency specified in Table 4.8 -11. <br />Total iron, TSS, SS, TDS and /or conductivity, pH, oil and grease and flow are the surface water <br />parameters. These parameters are in conformance with our Colorado wastewater discharge permit CO- <br />0032115. <br />When there is a discharge from the last sediment dam in a drainage, the discharge will be sampled as <br />specified in accordance with Trapper Mine's Colorado Wastewater Discharge Permits (see Map M52 for <br />location of monitoring sites). Monitoring sites are moved downstream slightly when additional downstream <br />settling reservoirs are added. The flow at the time of sample collection in a gulch will also be recorded. <br />The Colorado Water Quality Control Division will be notified orally within 24 hours and within five days by <br />written report or on quarterly DMR's after receiving the water quality results from the laboratory if values <br />exceed the discharge limits. <br />4 -239 <br />3 <br />�Y it i';.L Ict 7iC' <br />7 (),, -3 U w ,1 t � C ,. <br />
