high iron values observed at Well SFAL72 are not likely to be the result <br />of discharges from the Seneca II Mine or the PSCM. The high levels of <br />iron displayed at this well are likely the result of naturally occurring <br />organic matter and plant debris present in the alluvium (Hem, 1989, pg. <br />77) at this particular location. <br />Ground Water Quality Summary. The TDS trend at Well 68 is decreasing. <br />The TDS trend at Well 72 is increasing; however, only eight samples have <br />been collected so far by SCC. No CDPHE agricultural ground water <br />standards for were exceeded this year. With the exception of iron (see <br />above), no GWPQC standards were exceeded this year. In the area <br />surrounding Seneca II, ground water is not being pumped for irrigation <br />or livestock watering purposes, nor has the CDPHE classified any aquifer <br />in this region for any use. The above discussion is provided only to <br />serve as a comparative basis to judge ground water quality. Domestic <br />wells that provide drinking water for local residents are not from <br />aquifers impacted by mining. <br />Surface Water <br />Table 8 lists pertinent information on all NPDES, stream, and spring <br />monitoring sites at the Seneca II Mine. A complete description of the <br />old surface water monitoring program may be found on Pages 7 -336 to 7- <br />355 of the Seneca II PAP, and is summarized on pages 7- 349/350. The new <br />program is provided in the PR -02 package (Volume 14) on page 2.04.7 --2. <br />NPDES Discharge Point 008 is monitored monthly for field parameters <br />(flow, temperature, pH, and electrical conductivity) and NPDES lab <br />parameters. The NPDES permit may be found in Appendix 7 -2 of the PAP. <br />The two stream sites on Fish Creek (Sites SSF11 and 13), and the one on <br />the Fish Creek tributary, Bond Creek (Site SSB12), is monitored monthly <br />in June and July for field parameters and lab samples. When no flow is <br />observed at both the Cow Camp Creek Site SSC10 (a PSCM site) and Bond <br />Creek Site SSB12, the two Fish Creek sites (Sites 11 and 13) are not <br />monitored. At the Seneca II Mine, Spoil Spring SSSPG9 is monitored for <br />field parameters and a lab sample in the spring season. Lab samples <br />X <br />
