The completed Phase 1 mining
operation covered 35 acres. The Phase 1 pit was filled with water by an administrative exchange
during December 2009 resulting in a 23.3 acre pond whose surface is in equilibrium with the water
table. The Phase 1 pond will serve as the settling pond for the Phase 2 operation that is currently
underway. The attached Figure 1 shows the project phases.
The depletions of this operation for the 2013 plan year (February 1, 2013 — January 31,
2014) consist of 102.88 acre -feet of net evaporative loss from the exposed ground water, 7.65
acre -feet of water removed via 260,000 tons of mined product (4% Toss by weight), and 5.0 acre -
feet pumped for dust suppression. The area of exposed ground water from February 1, 2013 —
January 31, 2014 is projected to be a maximum of 33.9 acres (consisting of a 23.3 acre pond in
Phase 1, a 1.4 acre fresh water supply pond in Phase 2, and a 9.2 acre pond in Phase 2 that only
exists when mining ceases and the dewatering pump is shut off). The depletions of this operation
for the 2014 plan year (February 1, 2014 — January 31, 2015) consist of 118.06 acre -feet of net
Office of the State Engineer
1313 Sherman Street, Suite 818 • Denver, CO 80203 • Phone: 303 -866 -3581 • Fax: 303- 866 -3589
http://water.state.co.us
John W.
