• Other specific wildlife protection measures will include fencing of
electrical substations in all permit areas, reasonable speed limits on
mine roads, controlled hunting access, and proper storage, handling, and
disposal methods for all mine wastes.
Protection of Hvdroloaic Balance
In order to minimize any potential mining related impacts on existing
hydrologic systems in permit and adjacent areas, EFCI has incorporated
specific control and mitigation measures in mining and reclamation plans
for the Southfield Mine. These measures are based upon available baseline
information on the existing hydrologic environment, previous modeling of
hydrologic systems, the experience of similar mining operations in
controlling hydrologic impacts, applicable regulatory requirements, and
the results of ongoing monitoring programs. Hydrologic control and
mitigation measures developed for the Southfield operations have been
• designed to prevent significant changes in the quantity and quality of
surface and groundwater resources, preserve existing hydrologic functions,
and limit any adverse impacts on surface or groundwater users.
The following discussions summarize previous hydrologic investigations and
reports prepared for the Southfield Mine and adjacent mining operations.
In order to provide complete documentation, the following listed reports
are presented in Exhibit 7, Hydrologic Information:
o Hydrogeologic Report for Mine Permit Acquisition, Willard
Owens Associates,Inc., 3/79
o Supplementary Hydrology Report, Western Engineers Inc., 1/82
o Determination of Hydrologic Consequences - GEC Minerals Inc.,
Simons Li and Associates Inc., 9/81
o General Description of Hydrology -GEC Minerals, G.F. Sato and
Associates and Simons Li and Associates
. Where appropriate, the following summary discussions reference the noted
hydrologic investigations and reports.
2.05.6-8
