Our members and staff have an interest in the environmental health and
conditions of mined lands in Colorado and are directly and adversely affected by the SR -13A
Mine, located in western San Miguel County. INFORM has longstanding concerns about the idle
state of the SR -13A, the surface disturbances and the location of the mine in close proximity to
the Dolores River, among many other environmental issues related to the siting of a uranium
mine in such a sensitive location.
The SR -13A has not produced ore since at least Aug. 27, 1980, when Cotter Corporation first
requested that the Division approve the mine for Temporary Cessation status. That was over 32
years ago.
Cotter Corporation, after a lengthy exchange with the Division over the mine's non - operating
status, filed a Notice of Temporary Cessation with the Division on December 15, 2012.
Unfortunately, allowing Cotter Corporation to enter a period of temporary cessation at the
SR -13A allows the company, once again, to maintain the status quo and avoid a full reclamation
