As part of the permit application process, the applicant requested BIO- <br />Logic to review the potential occurrence and habitat significance of Gunnison sage - grouse (GuSG) at the <br />Site, because of recent proposals by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) to list GuSG as endangered <br />under the Endangered Species Act and to and designate critical habitat for the species. <br />BIO -Logic wildlife biologist Steve Boyle and plant ecologist Dr. Alison Graff visited the Site on January <br />30, 2013, and reviewed photos of the Site provided by permitting consultant Greg Lewicki, taken earlier <br />in the year without snow cover. <br />Gunnison Sage - grouse Biology and Conservation Status <br />Gunnison sage - grouse currently occupy parts of southwestern Colorado and adjacent Utah, with the major <br />population in the Gunnison Basin and much smaller satellite populations in other areas (FWS 2013a). <br />The current distribution represents about 7% of the presumed pre - settlement distribution.
