Sample Site Designation Sample Site Location Purpose MW -001 1,440 feet west, and 200 feet north of the southeast corner of Section 13 Township 22 South, Range 65 West. Screened across the Codell sandstone. Recently installed monitoring well. This well will be abandoned and MW -001A will be monitored instead to observe the existence of groundwater in the Codell sandstone. MW -001A 1,000 feet west, and 1,550 feet north of the southeast corner of Section 13 Township 22 South, Range 65 West. Screened across the Codell sandstone. Proposed monitoring well that will be installed to replace MW -001, as MW -001 may be disturbed during mining. If ground water is observed, the site will be sampled to establish baseline groundwater conditions within the Codell sandstone aquifer. MW -002 2,600 feet west and 3,000 feet north of the southeast comer of Section 12, Township 22 South, Range 65 West. Screened across the St. Charles River alluvial aquifer. Proposed background /ambient well. The site will be sampled to establish baseline groundwater conditions within the St. Charles River alluvial aquifer at the upstream property boundary. MW -003 1,800 feet west and 1,800 feet south of the northeast corner of Section 12, Township 22 South, Range 65 West. Screened across the St. Charles River alluvial aquifer. Proposed monitoring well located downstream of the proposed mine stormwater discharge to the St. Charles River. The site will provide background measurements for future comparison to levels found at this site in the St. Charles River alluvial aquifer during mining. MW -004 1,200 feet west and 400 feet south of the northeast corner of Section 12, Township 22 South, Range 65 West. Screened across the St. Charles River alluvial aquifer. Proposed compliance well located downstream of the monitoring well (MW- 003). Activities between MW -003 and MW- 004 will be under GCC Rio Grande Inc.'s control. The site will be sampled to establish baseline groundwater conditions within the St. Charles River alluvial aquifer at the downstream property boundary. 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 t 1 1 1 1 1 1 3.2 Timing /Scheduling Beginning the week of April 14, 2003, groundwater samples, field parameters, and groundwater elevation measurements will be collected monthly until the anticipated start of mining in September 2004. The anticipated sampling dates are listed below in Table 3 -3. Unexpected circumstances or adverse weather /site conditions may require that a sampling date be rescheduled. The Sampling Plan will be updated with changes and DMG will be informed of the change in sampling schedule. Table 3 -2.
