GCC Rio Grande, Inc. -Red Rock Mine
Drought Management Plan
Implementation will combine harvesting and conservation measures described in the
revegetation drought plan and the Red Rock Mine Permit to promote soil stability and
establishment of permanent vegetation on mined areas.
In the long -term, the best way to minimize drought impacts and control wind erosion is by
maintaining a diverse plant cover. Soil wind erosion potentials increase during drought periods
and represent a primary threat to successful revegetation. Therefore, revegetation drought plan
objectives focus on:
• Reducing wind erosion;
• Promoting soil moisture harvesting and retention;
• Reducing soil erosion associated with storm water runoff; and
• Providing suitable soil growth mediums capable of promoting seedling germination,
establishment and growth.
Methods and practices designed to accomplish these goals are the core of the Red Rock Mine
revegetation plan and revegetation drought plan.
Habitat Management, Inc. 11 03/03/2003
