February 5,2013
Tom Kaldenbach
Department of Natural Resources
Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215
Denver, CO 80203
Dear Mr. Kaldenbach,
Sincerely,
Mirk Kokes
Managing Partner
MMM Partnership
15160 Hwy 144 #18
Fort Morgan, CO 80701
(970)467 -7780
mkokes@mcqwd.org
MMM Partnership
15160 Hwy 144 Lot *18
For Morgan CO 80701
(970)867 -3624
R ECEIVED
`'DEB 072013
DIVISION OF RECLAMATION
MININGAND SAFETY
I would like to request an inspection of the Kokes Gravel Pit in Logan County #78 -249. The lease agreement MMM
Partnership has with Logan County expires in September 2013. We are exploring the option of non - renewal of the lease
and as the landowner have some reclamation questions.
It appears that areas of the permit have not been sloped appropriately and erosion has occurred in those areas. We are
also concerned that there is material that is being imported into the pit and placed in the topsoil area that is laden with
asphalt and concrete rip rap. It is our understanding that topsoil will be imported in and the affected areas will have at
least 6" of packed topsoil spread over that area.
We have enjoyed a positive working relationship with Logan County since the gravel operation began. We would like to
continue this relationship and are confident that the request will be handled in a discrete and professional manner by all
parties involved. Our request is to simply review the reclamation plan and establish a full understanding by all parties
the standards that will be adhered to along with the cost and significance of closing the pit. I would request that I be
allowed to be present for the inspection so I can better understand the reclamation process as it relates specifically to
this site.
