A statement signed by Climax that all applicable portions of the Environmental
Protection Plan (although not yet approved by DMG) and the Reclamation Plan requirements
have been satisfied in accordance with the Rules and the Act is included at the front of this
document as part of the cover letter. The only remaining closure and reclamation tasks for this area are to grade and
revegetate 11 acres around the No. 7 Shaft area and to reconstruct the Arkansas River channel
through the area.
Briefly, closure and reclamation of the Storke Complex involved demolition of buildings and
structures, grading and contouring of the site, placement of growth media, construction of
erosion and spill control structures, and revegetation. The effort encompassed approximately 46
acres. The remaining 9 acres involve the Arkansas River channel (Figure 1).
Site debris and rubble, including materials from demolition activities, were tested for toxicity
following discussions with DMG personnel.
