All other ventilation systems which are exhausting to
atmosphere have an acceptably low airborne contaminate level .
These systems are normally used in welding and vehicle
maintenance shops and mine ventilation.
All combustion of fuel for heating purposes is either
natural gas or propane with a small percentage of fuel oil used
as a backup. These systems are a clean burning , low emissions
level source .
During April 1977 , Climax was notified by the Colorado
Department of Health, Air Pollution Control Division, that it
was in compliance with the requirements of 25-7-112 (C.R.S.
1973 ) of the Air Pollution Control Act as pertains to Air Con-
taminant Emission Notices . The Division also noted that Climax
has obtained the necessary emission permits for specific
operation at Climax . Appendix C lists the Air Contaminant
Emissions Notices presently held by Climax and the "Permit to
Operate" permits for the specific operations mentioned above.
Fugitive Dust ,Control
Climax is involved in an intensive fugitive dust
suppression program.
Following several years of research and e testing "
of a number of chamical stabilizers , a product called Coherex \
was determined to be the superior treatment for control of
fugitive dust control from the tailing ponds due to the nature
of the tailing ponds, it was necessary to purchase all-terrain
vehicles to apply the Coherex. Currently a Flex-Trac Nodwell
all-terrain vehicle and two (2 ) five-wheeled , rubber-tired
Terra-Gator are utilized. The Flex-Trac is capable of
transporting a 1 , 500 gallon capacity tank while exerting less
than four psi from the track. The Terra-Gator transports a
2, 800 gallon tank and exerts 25 psi . The machines are very
complimentary to each other in performance capabilities in
respect to terrain and time efficiencies. Water is added to the
Coherex at a 9: 1 dilution ratio. The material is applied at
approximately one-half gallon per square yard . Folding spray
booms allow covering of 30-to-50 foot swaths in one pass .
7-10
