which time aggregate operations will return to the Arkansas
area. The Kokomo site at this time will be covered by the
advancing tailing in the Mayflower Tailing Pond. As aggregate
mining continues at Kokomo, topsoil is stripped and used
immediately for reclamation or stored in the Mayflower topsoil
stockpile (35) for later use.
The Arkansas River was relocated again during autumn
of 1978. The relocation will allow access to further aggregate
reserves when demand dictates. Mining may resume in this area
as early as 1982. No further relocation of the river in this
lower area should be necessary until ultimate reclamation. An
Army Corps of Engineers 404 Permit was obtained as authoriz-
ation for the river relocation. When mining resumes, approxi-
mately 3, 000 cubic yards of remaining topsoil will be stripped
and used immediately for reclamation or stored in the immediate'
area (4 ) for later use.
Another potential area for aggregate mining is in the
upper Arkansas Valley where development of a fresh water reser-
voir is under consideration.
2-11
