crusher, stockpile, or dump. Various sized dozers , along with
rubber-tired bulldozers are used on the dump roads and initial
stripping areas. Loaders are used for shovel backup and
stockpile loading . Other pit equipment includes backhoes,
cranes, graders , fuel and lube trucks , and small vehicles .
Other types of equipment may be used as necessary.
Open pit low grade ore is hauled to the Low Grade Ore
Stockpile ( 12 ) for storage until the later years of the open
pit operation when it will be processed. The low grade ore
stockpile was referred to in the original Climax application as
the "Old Tailing Pond" (Unit A) and was being covered with open
pit waste rock for stabilization purposes. This waste rock
base now has become advantageous as a site for a low grade ore
stockpile . Approximately 14 million tons of waste rock have
been dumped on the site and at least 6 million tons more will
be dumped. Low grade ore stockpiling is occurring concurrently
with the deposition of waste .
Open Pit waste rock is hauled from the pit to the
Cirque Waste Rock Dump (2) , McNulty Waste Rock Dump (6 ) , and
Low Grade Ore Stockpile for base , and will be hauled for
reclamation purposes to the Robinson Tailing area ( 13, 14, 15 ) .
Waste rock disposal sites will be discussed in the following
section.
Ceresco waste rock above the 12, 000 foot bench has
been hauled to the Cirque Dump. Remaining waste rock on
Ceresco was hauled to the Low Grade Ore Stockpile for stabiliz-
ation and base purposes. Bartlett Mountain waste above the
11 , 600 foot bench is or will be hauled to McNulty Waste Rock
Dump and the Robinson tailing area for reclamation purposes.
Middle and lower pit waste material also will be hauled to
McNulty Waste Rock Dump and Robinson tailing area.
2. 4 OPEN PIT DUMPS
The Cirque Waste Rock Dump ( 2 ) has been active since
1976 and required no special preparation other than
constructing a haul road .
