Discharges from Outfall 007, which is an internal outfall from MCC's wastewater
treatment plant (WWTP), were the only discharges that occurred this quarter. On December 31, 2012
MCC notified the Division by telephone of a fecal coliform daily limit exceedance reported by the
laboratory for a sample from Outfall 007. Two subsequent analyses of samples from Outfall 007 both
showed fecal coliform results of 0.0 colonies A 00m1.
The disinfection system in the WWTP was found to be in working order the day prior to and since the
reported fecal coliform. exceedance. MCC noted that the same sample with the reported fecal coliform
exceedance was reported to have an undetected BOD measurement. Also, although not believed to be the
reason for the exceedance, MCC has been working to address a sludge health issue in the WWTP. As
was mentioned in the telephone notification, MCC sent a sludge sample to Dr. Michael Richards of
Wastewater Microbiology, LLC for analysis. Dr. Richards continues to advise MCC as we work to lower
the plant's Mixed Liquor Suspended Solids concentration. This will produce a "younger" sludge and an
overall healthier wastewater treatment process.
Should you require additional information or have any questions concerning these DMRs, please contact
me at (970) 929 -2308.
Sincerely,
e,t zaue-&e?
J ssica Loveland, RE.
Environmental Engineer
Enclosures: CDPS Forms (DMRs) Fourth Quarter 2012.
cc: W Norris
J.
