Limited - Results Archaeological Survey Form (Page 3 of 6)
IV. ENVIRONMENT
18. General Topographic Setting: The project area is located at the southern end of Twentymile
Park, immediately northwest of Fish Creek. The town of Oak Creek is 12 miles southeast of the
project area via CR27 and CR37. Both core hole locations are in areas that have been
previously impacted via Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) activities.
Current Land Use: Livestock grazing and limited hunting.
19. Flora: The project area is heavily vegetated with tall grasses and (orbs, with a limited amount of
low sagebrush.
20. Soils /Geology: Surface sediments are predominantly aeolian in nature and consist of a dark
brown clayey loam with few gravels and cobbles. Subsurface geology is composed of
sandstone, shale and major coal beds of the Williams Fork Formation which are sedimentary and
igneous rocks from the Early Tertiary and Late Cretaceous Age (Tweto 1979).
21. Ground Visibility: Surface visibility was poor, averaging around 20 %, due to the thick grass
cover. There were several areas affording views of the subsurface contents via animal trails,
small eroded areas, and rodent back dirt piles.
22. Comments:
V. LITERATURE REVIEW
23. Location of File Search: OAHP - Compass online database and BLM Little Snake FO
Dates: 09/07 & 09/09/2011
24. Previous Survey Activity - In the project area: No previous cultural resource inventories are
located within the current project area.
In the general region: Two previous inventories have been conducted within the two sections where
the drill locations are located. Both of these where performed by Metcalf Archaeology. In
section 34, a portion of a seismic line was inventoried in 2004 (BLM 54 -1 -04) and in section 27, a
portion of the Cow Camp subsidence project was inventoried in 2008 (BLM 54- 1 -08).
25. Known Cultural Resources - In the project area: No previously recorded archaeological sites or
isolated finds are located within the project boundary.
In the general region (summarize): There are two isolated finds recorded within section 34, but these
are over a '/4 mile away.
