Cunningham
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215
Denver, Colorado 80203
Dear Mr. Cunningham,
RE: Request for Technical Revision to the Gold Hill Mill Permit No. M- 1994 -117
RECEIVED
JAN 2 2013
Division of Reclamation,
Mining & Safety
This request for a Technical Revision to the Gold Hill Mill's Permit No. M- 1994 -117 is
being submitted to comply with the Mined Land Reclamation Board's Order dated October 12,
2012. It is being submitted to address the disposal of mill tailings in the Cy Eaton mine shaft and
in a prospect pit on the White Cloud vein. Both of these mine workings were improperly filled
with mill tailings by Mount Royale Ventures during the period when it was operating the Gold
Hill Mill.
The Cy Eaton shaft and the surrounding area where mill tailings were exposed have been
backfilled with inert, non - mineralized rock from the waste rock pile created when the shaft was
sunk back in the 1870s. This work was completed using a rubber tired front -end loader. All of
the available topsoil was spread over the disturbed area using shovels and rakes. This created
positive drainage over the disturbed site. All of the exposed tailings at this location have been
covered with three or four feet of waste rock and decomposed granite. This will insure that the
exposure and erosion of these tailings will not occur in the future.
Since this reclamation work was completed in the early winter time, the area was not
reseeded. As soon as weather permits, the area will be reseeded using the approved seed mixture
for this site.
The White Cloud mine prospect pit that was used to dispose of mill tailings has also been
reclaimed by backfilling with non - acidic waste rock. Organic material consisting of pine needles
and tree branches were placed over this waste rock. There are no longer any exposed mill tailings
in this area. It will be reseeded using the approved seed mixture for this site as soon as the
weather permits this activity.
Both of these disturbed areas are outside of the Gold Hill Mill's permit boundary area,
and Gold Hill Mines, Inc. has no desire to expand the permit boundary to include these two sites.
As soon as these sites are proven to have established vegetation over the reclaimed disturbed
surfaces, Gold Hill Mines, Inc. will request that these sites not be considered to be areas that
need further reclamation.
