MINREC, INC. <br />AHR <br />PAGE 2 <br />Since May 2010 the discharge from Treatment Pond T -2 has been routed from Outfall 001 <br />to sediment pond P -9 and the refuse pile pond. This routing of water is approved as part of <br />the developed water resource post mining land use. The ponds are inspected monthly to <br />determine the water level in each pond. Water can be shifted between pond P -9 and the <br />refuse pile pond to keep the water level below the elevation of the pond spillways. The <br />discharge from treatment pond T -2 will be routed to outfall 001A when the water level in <br />both ponds approaches the level of their spillways. It is Minrec's intent to maintain about 2 <br />feet of freeboard in both ponds. <br />Monitoring data for this years report is segregated into the following appendices: <br />Appendix No. Monitoring Data <br />I North Thompson Creek - Upstream & Downstream Water Quality <br />II Mine Discharge Quality - Outfall 001 <br />SURFACE WATER QUALITY <br />Appendix I contains the water quality information collected for North Thompson Creek. <br />The quality information taken on North Thompson Creek, in May and September, is <br />designed to monitor quality at the approximate high and low flow. <br />MINE FLOWS <br />All of the water flowing into the No. 1 Mine flows out through a 6 -inch PVC pipe and into <br />the long pond. <br />The No. 3 Mine, has two separate sources of discharge. One is from a point source <br />(spring) within the mine that is piped directly to the surface. This good quality water was <br />the source of the discharge from the No. 3 Mine, from 1986 through 1994. The water level <br />in the mine fluctuated from 1986 through 1994 but no water discharged directly from the <br />mine. During the second quarter of 1995, wet spring weather caused the mine to fill and <br />begin discharging iron laden water. <br />In order to treat this iron laden water, a 4 -inch diameter PVC pipe was installed to convey <br />the discharge from the No. 3 mine to the long pond located at the No. 1 Mine. The <br />discharges from the mines were combined effective August 11, 1995. The combined <br />discharge from the mines is treated by the passive water treatment system and is <br />discharged through Outfall 001. <br />
