This
is when the underground equipment was hauled to a different mine and the fuel was removed from the bulk
fuel tanks. The mine is not being operated due to low uranium prices but is planned to be pumped out and
developed once the prices come back up.
The mine will continue to be inspected and items such as erosion control, weed spraying, groundwater
monitoring will continue to be conducted while the mine is in temporary cessation. DRMS should continue to
expect quarterly ground water monitoring reports and annual fees. Only minor underground development has
been completed since the permit was issued in 2008 and the $375,078 bond that was submitted is estimated to
still be sufficient. Additionally, the Whirlwind Mine has not completed the secondary escape through the
packrat portal and therefore a mine seal would not be needed. This mine seal was a large portion of the full
bond amount.
Please let me know if you require any additional information at this time.
Sincerely,
Ryan llis, PE
Environmental Engineer
Attachment
Cc: Scott Gerwe, BLM
Frank Filas, Dick White (Energy Fuels)
