Keffelew, Berhan
From: Carl Poch [cpoch99 @yahoo.com]
Sent: Tuesday, June 10, 2008 7:41 AM
To: Keffelew, Berhan
Subject: Re:
The Double Eagle room is nice, I've been to many events there and it would be fine.
Recognizing that your say is strictly technical, something has come up that makes me think
you might want to investigate this.
The Heritage Center is above many, many mine shafts each 100 feet below the other.
The mine will be blasting at the bottom of an 800 foot deep pit very near the heritage
center. No study has been done to see if there is a potential to collapse any of these
tunnels plunging the Heritage Center down. The mine environmentalist has stated that
while no studies have been done, monitors will be placed at the Heritage Center to see
what happens as they move closer.
What if the monitor shows that the building is in fact collapsing? It will be too late.
In a similar vein, tourists go down 1000 feet at the Molly Kathleen mine next to the
Heritage Center. While monitors may be placed at the Molly Kathleen, as blasting draws
nearer, it may be to late and an "OOPS" isn't going to save the several groups of people
trapped in this mine.
Consider this and I certainly think a delay in approval while studies of the potential
effect on these two facilities would be appropriate.
Carl
Carl Poch
611 E.
