November 30, 2010
Mr. Miguel Hamarat
Climax Molybdenum Company
Henderson Operations
19302 County Road 3
Parshall, CO 80468
Subject: Henderson Mill 1 -Dam Well Field Assessment
Dear Mr. Hamarat:
On November 9, 2010, I inspected the Dam #1 Well Field at the Henderson Mill. I was
accompanied by William Katz of your office. In addition I have reviewed the design report
written by URS titled "Phase 1 Extraction Well System at Tailings Dam No.1" dated October
15, 2001. The purpose of this inspection was to produce a set of record drawings to reflect
existing observed conditions, and to compare the current installation with the report
recommendations.
Observations from our inspection of the installation and report review are as follows:
• The report called for drilling 9 wells with 4" PVC casing and the installation
of pumps capable of producing 5 gpm at 50 ft of head. This has been done.
• Originally level sensing pneumatic pumps were specified and installed but are
being replaced, as needed, with electric pumps. Currently 2 pumps are
electric.
• The report called for 6 observation wells to be installed after the installation of
the extraction wells for monitoring purposes, the locations were not specified
in the report. The report called for these wells to be installed after the
extraction wells were completed
• The installation has 9 monitoring wells drilled adjacent to the extraction wells.
These wells will not provide the data required from the observation wells.
The observed installation appears to meet the intent of the design report, with the exception
of the observation wells. The drawings have been revised to show the monitoring wells, other
minor clarifications and are labeled as "Record Drawing ". I have attached copies of these
drawings for your files.
