amec
recommended not to proceed until acceptable temperatures are met. On Saturday the 29th at
approximately 1100hrs it was determined that the average temperature within the already placed
within a designated area the average fill temp., was at 32 °F. An Amec field representative
approved the materials and informed the contractor the 1St lift can be placed for Mat No. 22 and
left with a loose lift during the holiday break within a specified area. The contractor placed the 1St
lift within a designated approved area for Mat No. 22 then placed a loose lift and covered with
heating elements and blankets for the holiday break.
Note; The contractor set up ground thaw heaters and applied blankets to help with the freezing
temperatures thru the week. An Amec Field representative monitored wall backfill temperatures
during construction.
Fill temperatures averaged between 25.5 °F and 32 °F
Wall #2
Completed during day shift on Friday December 12.07.12 at approximately 1200 hrs.
Wall #3
No work was performed on MSE wall #3.
Wall #4
Completed during night shift on November 29/30th
CQA ACTIVITIES:
SUMMARY:
The CQA activities performed consisted of observing, documenting and recording the construction
activities of the contractor.
AMEC observed DCF placement within the Mill Site Earthworks project, including ambient and fill
temperature monitoring when necessary.
AMEC observed overburden fill placement for the Mill Site Earthworks project, including ambient and fill
temperature monitoring when necessary.
AMEC observed construction of MSE Wall No. 1.
Testing Summary
Laboratory testing continued (Particle Size Distribution, Atterberg Limits, Moisture - Density Relations,
Specific Gravity, Permeability, and Point Load testing) for sampled materials.
Samples Obtained
DCF — 0
SLF -0
OVF — 1
MWB -0
MWDR — 0
MEW Weekly Report WE 12.29.2012.docx
