(Page 2)
1
~MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID # M-77-493
INSPECTION DATE 10/29/97 INSPECTOR'S INITIALS ACS
OBSERVATIONS
This inspection was conducted in order to facilitate the exchange of 1.37 acres of affected
land at the Climax Mine as proposed in technical revision TR-010.
The 1.37 acre area to be removed from the area of affected land was inspected. The
designated 1.37 acres is located adjacent to Kokomo Gulch in the area between 3-dam and the
Mayflower tailing pond. The parcel is forested, and has not been disturbed by operations
conducted by Climax Molybdenum Company. Neither was there any indication of any historic
mining related disturbance on the 1.37 acre parcel. Limited tree cutting had occurred on the
parcel at some time in the past. It was determined that this 1.37 acre parcel meets the
criteria for release from the area of affected land.
The 1.37 acre area proposed to be added to the area of affected land was inspected. This
area is a pre-existing road that will be the installation site for a surge line associated
with the new 5-dam pumpback line. The pre-existing road angles from the 5-dam crest up to
the West Interceptor Canal access road. A section of the Mayflower Pond decant water return
line is buried under the road that is proposed for addition to the area of affected land.
Several manholes associated with this decant water return line were observed; this water line
is not currently in use. The cut slope associated with this road has been stabilized by
placement of gabions.
The 40 foot wide swath that is being permitted for installation of the surge line will be
more than wide enough to facilitate construction. However, the operator will have to
exercise some caution to assure that excavated material is not cast off the downhill side of
the road during construction operations.
In order to finalize the technical revision TR-010 process, Climax must provide proof of
newspaper publication. If no adverse, pertinent public comment is received by the twentieth
day following the date of the last newspaper publication, the Division will process the TR-
010 approval.
CC: Carl Mount, DMG
I & E Contact Address
❑ CE
NAME Bryce Romig ❑ BL
OPERATOR Climax Molybdenum Company ❑ FS
STREET Climax Mine ❑ HW
CITY/STATE/ZIP Climax.
