• III I II I II I II IIII III
999
Permi ttee Name: Climax Molybdenum Company
Permit No: M-77-493 A41NFt) tAJ
Operation Name: Climax Mine 4EC;L.*':-,#IA ;r N #3IVlC l",j
Anniversary Date: 03/04/90
Please return this form with your completed Annual Report, map, and a
check or money order for annual fees due, payable to the Colorado Mined Land
Reclamation Division, 1313 Sherman Street, Room 215, Denver, Colorado 80203.
ANNUAL REPORT:
Considerable reclamation oriented activities occurred at the Climax
Mine during 1989. The permit and reclamation plan was formally
amended and approved by the Board in October following several
years of work. The affected area was remapped and timelines were
changed to reflect the "swing producer" status of the operation.
Mining activity resumed in the underground portion of the mine and
continued into 1990. Climax will produce and mill ore as the
market dictates. The financial warranty was reduced from $25 million
to $18, 600, 000 as approved by the Board.
Reclamation work at the site focused on general completion of the
activities in ' the Arkansas drainage, completion of the haul road
overpass allowing trucks access to the Robinson tailing pond, and
initiation of capping of the Mayflower tailing dam and beach area
with growth medium obtained from an adjacent barrow site.
Topsoiling was completed in the Arkansas area and newly topsoiled
areas were seeded with the Climax mix. Willow cuttings were planted
in the upper portion of this site to assist in stabilizing the river
channel . Seeding from 1988 and 1987 showed excellent success . Additional
minor work will take place in 1990 in this area.
Approximately 95% of the Mayflower tailing dam and 90% of the beach
area of the Mayflower tailing pond were covered with 12-24 inches of
material excavated from the adjacent borrow area. This material is
a sandy loam with an organic matter content of 2. 8"o. During 1990,
this area will be amended and seeded with the standard Climax
technology. In addition, reclamation test ' pl6ts'will be established
as per the amended reclamation plan.
f/41--
:7
ture Jeff ey W.
