Inc. is requesting approval to re -enter the Red Point Oil Shale Mine (formally
Chevron Semi -Works Mine) for the purpose of stabilizing the exterior face, entry portal and
interior surfaces in anticipation of future research opportunities. The Red Point Mine provides a
unique opportunity to obtain valuable rock mechanic and fracture data for use in developing
working models and refining processes for practical application on the Chevron Oil Shale
Research, Development and Demonstration (RDD) lease in Rio Blanco County.
This proposal would entail exterior and interior mine stabilization work in preparation for future
process testing to be conducted in the Spring/Summer of 2012. The process test work would be
submitted as a modification to this application as details and plans are finalized for those
activities.
The Red Point Mine was previously permitted with the Division of Reclamation, Mining and
Safety in 1981 under the NOI number P -1981 -131. The permit was released on June 6, 2005.
The following documents are enclosed for your review: Summary narrative of the proposed
project with applicable supporting documents; Two hard copies and one electronic copy of the
DRMS Forms 2 (Public File) NOI application; Vicinity map; Site plan showing surface and
underground mine details; Corporate Surety for surface reclamation; and Application Fee.
Thank you for your consideration.
