Red Point Mine is in very
good condition considering the 25+ years since it has been idle, but some areas have been
recommended for scaling (removing loose rock) and re- shoring (adding roof bolts) to reduce
hazards associated with plans for mine experimentation in 2012. The mine restoration will
include both interior and exterior work and will be paid for by Chevron.
The exterior work will include rock scaling above the mine portal, installation of a rockfall barrier
and rockfall mesh drape, and rehab of the wooden portal canopy. The mine interior work will
include scaling, installation of additional roof bolts and chain link fencing, and replacement of
utility piping and ventilation fans. We would like to begin this work in the coming weeks and
complete as much as possible in 2011.
The Mining Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) will require a change in mine classification
from abandoned to operational — non - producing to allow for any future experimentation, and
the Division of Reclamation and Mining Safety (DRMS) will require the work to be permitted
through a Notice of Intent. Chevron requests concurrence from ConocoPhillips to proceed with
these MSHA and DRMS requirements.
Sincerely
