Hickenlooper
Governor
Mike King
Executive Director
Loretta E. Pineda
Director
The Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety hereby issues notice, in accordance with Title 34,
Article 33, Section 116, Paragraph 4, of the Colorado Revised Statutes, that on January 3, 2013 an
application to revise coal mining operations at the North Thompson Creek Mine was considered
complete for the purposes of filing. The revision was submitted by MINREC, Inc.. All review and
comment periods as provided in the Act and the Regulations initiate from this date of filing.
The operator would like to occasionally block the primary spillway on Pond 9 that discharges to
the approved NPDES discharge point for the purposes of irrigation. When the primary spillway is
blocked, Pond 9 will fill with water and discharge through a ditch, irrigating a small parcel of land
to the east of Pond 9. The irrigation water will eventually flow to the refuse pond which is the
same destination as if the water were discharged through the approved NPDES discharge point.
No changes in disturbed area, permit area or affected area are proposed. The structures described
in this revision are pre- existing and no new structures are proposed.
The Underground coal mining operation is on land located approximately 10 miles Southwest of
Carbondale, Colorado. The permit area is further described as follows:
T8S, R89W; Portions of Sections 21, 22, 27, 28, 33, 34 and 35
T9S, R89W; Portions of Sections 2, 3 and 4
T7S, R88W; Portions of Sections 20, 29, 30 and 32
The above - mentioned tracts of land are shown on USGS 7.5 minute Quadrangle map of Stony
Ridge.
Office of Office of
Mined Land Reclamation Denver • Grand Junction • Durango Active and Inactive Mines
