On the ground, the amount of disturbance (affected land) is the same as last year
with nothing added or removed. The difference in acreage is due to a redefinition of how the units are laid out
on the map. In the past, stripped land was derived by determining the area of stripped land and subtracting
areas where there was an overlap with other units. The map was modified so that stripped land is defined
without any overlaps. That resulted in both a shifting of the stripped land acreage value as well as any lands that
previously overlapped that unit. Other units were also redefined in various ways which, when all was totaled,
resulted in what appears to be an 8 acre reduction in affected land. In fact, previous measurements were too
high because of errors caused by determining the overlap areas. Thus, the 102 acres is much closer to the
correct value than 110 acres.
Future Map Changes: In the next year it is expected that older topography lines that represent the original
topography will be modified to more accurately reflect the actual topography. Of course, the actual topography
is constantly changing, but enough changes have occurred since the 2004 base map that including those changes
on the master map is justifiable. Some changes were shown previously in the amendment for the corrective
action, but elsewhere changes have also occurred and those need to be updated. These changes will be close
estimated. Due to the high cost of remapping the entire site, these adjustments will serve to keep the map fairly
close to true until a remapping can be done in future years.
Schmidt Construction Company 2012 Annual Report M -76- 009 -HR Menzer Quarry Page 1 of 1
