Peabod
Mr. Jason Musick
Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety
1313 Sherman St., Room 215
Denver, Colorado 80203
303.866.3567 X8134
Dear Mr. Musick;
1111 ENERGY
Re: Minor Revision MR12 -265 and Exploration Notice of Intent, WMD Seismic Survey
With this submittal, Twentymile Coal, LLC (TC) is requesting CDRMS approval of a Minor Revision (MR12-
265) to our existing approved Mining and Reclamation Permit, and an Exploration Notice of Intent (NOI), for
completion of a seismic survey to better define the geology of the coal seams and structural features in an area to
the south of our present Western Mining District (WMD). Both an MR and NOI are required, due to the
location of the proposed seismic lines, which include areas both within and outside of the present Mine Permit
Boundary.
The proposed seismic survey will involve completion of five seismic lines, ranging from 5,500 to 8,800 feet in
length (total length approximately 37,600 feet) utilizing the "digi- pulse" method. This method involves the use
of an all- terrain vehicle - mounted impact hammer, and geophones connected to a mobile truck- mounted
receiver /recorder (see attached description). The proposed seismic program is anticipated to be completed
during January 2013, therefore, a snow -cat may be utilized to remove snow to facilitate access. The proposed
activities will, however, involve no direct ground disturbance, therefore there will be no bond associated with
this project.
The proposed activities will occur on lands owned or controlled by TC. TC is coordinating with Colorado Parks
and Wildlife, on a wildlife consultation for the project, for which a documentation letter will be forwarded on
receipt.
This submittal includes revised PAP text and supporting materials. TC would like to initiate the proposed
seismic activities as soon as possible, and therefore, requests the assistance and cooperation of the CDRMS is
completing review and approval of this application in a timely manner. Once you have opportunity to review
this submittal, please feel free to contact me with any questions, or to discuss the submittal and related matters.
We appreciate your attention and assistance.
Best regards,
erry gftleton
Ma
r Environmental Affairs
cc: Mike Berdine /TC
Rocky Thompson/PE
Twentymile Coal, LLC
29515 Routt County Road 27
Oak Creek, CO 80467
970.879.3800
November 15, 2012
