Pineda
Director
It is my pleasure to notify you that you have been selected as the 2012 recipient of the Dr. James A. Pendleton
Reclamation Award. In the memory of Dr. James A. Pendleton, this award recognizes outstanding
individuals for their significant contributions to the reclamation of mined lands in Colorado. You have been
selected for your passionate, energetic, and exceptional knowledge about mined land reclamation and for your
valuable participation on the Abandoned Mined Land Advisory Board.
You are being recognized for your commitment to try new techniques and to continually improve upon what
you have learned. This is most apparent as you have sought solutions to the challenges of steep slope
reclamation for revegetation and drainage control. You have applied many innovative practices at the Seneca
Mines that have resulted in diverse wildlife habitat throughout the reclaimed areas. From the late 1970s
through today it is very apparent that reclamation under your supervision has evolved, resulting in the
reestablishment of diverse stands of vegetation and exceptional wildlife habitat. Your continuing education
through seminars and workshops on range management and regular discussions with Division staff on the
applicability of alternative reclamation practices at the Seneca Mines is commendable.
The award will be presented at the Awards will be presented at the Colorado Mining Association 115
National Western Mining Conference & Exhibit at the Colorado Convention Center. The awards luncheon
will take place on Wednesday, February 27, 2013.
Congratulations on your outstanding contributions to the reclamation of mined lands in Colorado.
