SCOPE OF WORK FOR 1995 CLIMAX MINE RECLAMATION
Task 1. Capping, Grading,Drainage and Erosion Control at Storke Yard and
Storke Waste Water Pump Station (SWWPS)
This task includes:
(1) Grading the existing Storke Yard benches visible from Hwy 91 such that their impact is
"softened" from straight, angular lines to an undulating and broken appearance. Grading can best
be achieved with a track-mounted backhoe operating on the benches, pulling material back to fill in
behind the machine. Some of the cribbing will be saved to maintain slope stability.
(2) Regrading of the reclaimed Storke Yard to establish surface drainage features (swales, contour
ditches, diversions) so that stormwater flow is directed away from the Arkansas River corridor and
toward the Storke Waste Water Pump Station.
(3) Grading the No. 5 Shaft manway area to affect drainage conveyance to the Storke Waste Water
Pump Station to protect against a spill in the No. 5 Shaft Pump Facility.
(4) Extension of the SWWPS flume using a rip-rap berm or vegetated channel to capture
stormwater runoff and convey it to the SWWPS.
(5) Provide fill on SWWPS roadway to extend level of road base to top of flume plus grading of
roadway so that drainage enters the concrete-lined channel.
(6) Channelize or consolidate seep drainage from toe of Storke Crusher parking lot fill by use of a
slotted pipe wrapped in filter fabric and covered with clean fill.
(7) Berm around SWWPS for spill control and stormwater control.
(8) Removal of waste material in wedge below SWWPS next to Hwy 91.
(9) Divert water from hill upgradient(south)of SWWPS and put silt fence along Arkansas River.
(10) Grade the outslope of old Storke Dry parking lot by pulling back with track mounted backhoe.
(11) All graded areas traversible with conventional equipment will be limed with agricultural
limestone at a rate of 15 tons/acre (lime spec: minimum 90% CaCO3,>50%minus 60 mesh).
(12) Following the lime application, all areas will be disked to incorporate the lime.
