2.04.9 <br /> Page 11 of 46 <br /> Q F--Midnight- Rombo' complex, 35 to 50 percent slopes. This map unit is <br /> on mountainsides below basalt dikes. Slope is 35 to 50 percent. The native <br /> vegetation is grass, brush, and a few widely spaced trees. Elevation is 7,000 to <br /> 8, 500 feet. The average `annual precipitation is about 18 to 23 inches, the <br /> average annual air temperature is 42 to 46 degrees F. , and the average frost-free <br /> season is 80 to 105 days.' <br /> This unit is 45 percent Midnight channery and flaggy silty clay loam <br /> and 45 percent Rombo channery and flaggy silty clay loam. Midnight soils <br /> are near the top of the mountainside adjacent to basalt dikes,. Rombo <br /> soils are on the lower part of the mountainsides. <br /> Included in this unit are b,nsalt dikes at the crest of the mountain. <br /> Also included are small areas of rock outcrop on lower slopes. <br /> The midnight soil is shallow and well drained. If formed in residuum and <br /> colluvium derived dominantly from shale. Typically the surface layer is <br /> channery or flaggy silty clay loam 4 inches thick. The subsurface layer <br /> is very shaley silty clay loam over weathered shale bedrock at a depth of 16 incnes. <br /> The soil is neutral. The shale Vedrock is calcareous between the seams. <br /> Permeability of the Midnight soil is moderately slow. Available water <br /> CAPOCity is very low.
