Box 316, Pueblo, Colorado, has filed <br /> with the Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Division, an application for a <br /> permit to continue operation of the Maxwell underground coal mine under <br /> provisions of the Colorado Surface Coal Mining Reclamation Act of 1979. <br /> The surface facilities, mine entrance, and mine waste disposal area are <br /> located in the SANE; and SE; of Section 29, Township 33 South, Range 67 <br /> West. The surface of the proposed permit area is owned by CF&I Steel <br /> Corporation and the mine has been in operation since 1976. The mine <br /> is known as the Maxwell Mine and is located 27 miles west of Trinidad on <br /> State Highway 12. The surface facilities for the mine are located on the <br /> suutll side of the Purgatoire River. The USGS 7.5 minute quadrangle snap <br /> "Viyll" covers the area of the proposed operation. A cony of the permit <br /> ar,plicatiolt is available for public inspection at uhe County Clerk's <br /> office, Las Animas County Court House, Trinidad, Colorado.
